Present and Future was a short story written by Philip Scholes. It was the third of the twelve prose stories submitted by fans to the Doctor Who: Lockdown! as part of the 2020 The Pilot tweetalong to receive an official release on the Lockdown! website.

- Nardole has been mixing different sorts of tea together to make the Doctor's coffee.
- The Curator contacts the Doctor by using the psychic paper.
- The Doctor suggests that he could steal a diamond from a mining station near Saturn and buy a load of coffee from the local Tesco.
- The Doctor still misses River Song, remembering how their years of bliss on Darillium had come to an end "so very fast".
- The Doctor instructs Nardole to make sure "the sonic screwdrivers don't go missing again".
- The Curator mentions how "retired Time Lords can't have TARDISes" and how "that business with Professor Chronotis" taught him that.
- The Curator mentions that there is "a particularly dark year coming up for humanity" and that the Doctor should get away before then.
- The Curator shows the Doctor a picture of River Song from "when the Doctor had encountered her in the Library, two lifetimes ago" and a picture of "a young woman with a black hair and who was dressed in a striped top and darkish blue jeans", mentioning how she is a dinner lady who shouldn't be at the Doctor's lectures.
- The Curator has a sonic screwdriver, which he adds to the pot of sonic screwdrivers that the Doctor keeps on his desk.
- The Curator tells the Doctor to be nicer to his friends, accidentally revealing that that problem gets solved in his next incarnation.
