House was a mysterious entity who existed in a bubble universe, outside normal reality.

Although for all intents and purposes a disembodied consciousness, spaces inhabited by House could be recognised by the sickly green light which began to infuse them. House was a sadistic tyrant and an eater of TARDISes, who also, later, gained the ability to displace a TARDIS's consciousness and possess its shell.

Biography[]

Origins[]

House once hinted that he had originated in the pre-Anchoring universe, telling the Doctor's TARDIS that he "remember[ed] another cosmos. A place where life, true life, blossomed. Where being like us roamed the Vortex" — "the Old Days, from where Time was a sea". The TARDIS retorted, however, that from the glimpse she'd had of his past as she defeated him, he had always been a parasite clinging to the corpses of the dead to give himself meaning. Crimes[]

House once existed as the consciousness of a sentient planetoid inhabiting a bubble dimension. By the end of the Last Great Time War, House had lured hundreds of Time Lords into his pocket dimension using a store of distress signal Hypercubes created by his previous victims. After he'd lured them to his world, House killed the Time Lords (making "patchwork people" out of their bodies to amuse himself) and drained the consciousness out of their TARDIS so as to consume said TARDISes. Defeat by the Doctor[]

After the Time War, the only Time Lord he managed to attract was the last survivor, the Doctor, then in his eleventh incarnation and travelling with Amy and her husband Rory. Learning that there were to be no more TARDISes for him to lure, House did not destroy the Doctor's TARDIS but instead learned to take it over, hoping to fly into the normal universe on his own power and look for a new foodsource. However, the Doctor tricked him into letting the human woman containing the soul of the TARDIS back into the ship's control room. The Heart of the TARDIS, freed from her flesh prison, battled House for control and made short work of him. (TV: The Doctor's Wife)

Imprisonment[]

After reasserting herself as the mistress of the Ship, the TARDIS's consciousness "cut up [House's] very existence in the three-dimensional space, trapping him in an anomaly, a rogue millisecond that had slipped from all timestreams", reducing him to "a flicker of consciousness, (…) a butterfly, pinned and catalogued and filed, standing still to be observed by the Eye of Harmony".

The TARDIS visited House in the deep recesses of his prison on several occasion. During her last visit, she revealed to him the true reason for how vindictive she was with him, namely that he had led her to accidentally kill Idris, and had absolutely no remorse for that act. Encounter with Alice[]

Having somehow regained his freedom, House sent out a generic distress signal using a Hypercube and attracted the attention of Alice, a human girl who had a TARDIS of her own. Although he successfully took it over for a few minutes, Alice tricked him into thinking Hypercubes, which could travel “through Realities and Dreams” as easily as through Space and Time, were superior vessels to TARDISes. This led to House transferring himself into his own Hypercube — only to realise he had no way of getting out of the cube again. Alice then left in her TARDIS, leaving House in the Hypercube.
